Wireless penetration is reaching saturation in Europe, North America, and parts of Asia-Pacific – in excess of 45% – and service providers are looking to China and the Middle East for the next growth opportunities. Voice-only services continue to decline, forcing carriers and operators to identify, develop, and offer compelling data services. The delays in 3G deployment may partially be attributed to the growth of wireless LANs which, while complementary to broadband WANs, offer an alternative to 3G. In an effort to provide customers with a seamless experience across geographies, alliances and acquisitions are likely to continue.
SDG can be a tremendous resource to service providers and manufacturers as they attempt to make the right bets on technology, markets, and customer adoption patterns. Our approach, developed over more than 20 years of working with capital-intensive corporations, pinpoints the greatest sources of opportunity and risk and quantifies the impact of decisions and tradeoffs on shareholder value, resulting in a clear basis for action. We assist clients in selecting the highest value product portfolio, making R&D and technology investments, entering new markets, assessing technology tradeoffs, initiating strategic alliances, and optimizing their position within the value chain.
