SDG worked with executives of a major international film and entertainment company to develop both corporate and divisional strategies for existing and emerging businesses. During these efforts, we created financial and business models of the world electronic distribution for entertainment (including cable, broadcast, videotape, satellite), determined how entertainment would be delivered in the future, and identified opportunities where our client could capture value. The company made more than 20 television platform and channel investments over the next three years. Initial investments have more than quadrupled in value. Projects include:
- Worldwide Electronic Distribution Strategy: Analyzed geographic entertainment markets over the next 20-year period. Created a new corporate group to cultivate businesses in the most promising markets, including China, India, and Latin America.
- Television Production Business Strategy: Developed operational alternatives designed to increase the value of an existing television production business by $50 million.
- International Growth and Development Plan: Created international organizational structure alternatives, communications infrastructure and support processes, and an asset maximization plan across all product lines. Prioritized geographic and business opportunities for local markets. The client has implemented the plan.
- New Media Strategy: Evaluated market trends, alternative technology paths, consumer attitudes and spending, and competitor (new and existing) strategies. Developed potential business economics and consequent entry strategies for both at-home and out-of-home entertainment venues.
- Motion Picture Portfolio Strategy: Benchmarked decision-making for both portfolio (film slate) and individual film production processes. Built five-year film industry database to evaluate individual film decisions and examine risk profiles of annual portfolios.
