SDG Nuclear Industry Expert to Address New Nuclear Build Summit in October

CHRISTOPHER DANN

PALO ALTO, Calif. –  July 10, 2009 – Christopher Dann of management consulting firm Strategic Decisions Group will discuss strategy and risk management for new nuclear investments at the 2009 Nuclear Construction Summit in Washington, DC.

Mr. Dann, a partner and director of the firm’s Energy & Environment Practice, will present “Strategy and Risk Management for Nuclear Investments” at the forum designed for those involved in planning for, and executing, nuclear new build projects in the US.

“After a three decades long hiatus, there is renewed interest in building nuclear plants in the US,” said Mr. Dann. “We need a source of energy that will reduce carbon emissions and dependence on foreign oil. Environmental concerns, the emergence of a new generation of reactor designs, and changes in the licensing and regulatory environment are converging to create a nuclear renaissance.”

Mr. Dann and his colleagues at Strategic Decisions Group are currently working with several of the developers of new nuclear plants in the US to develop strategy and manage risks of these large scale investments.

“The future of the nuclear renaissance in the US will critically depend upon industry participants’ demonstration that the industry will be able to deliver these projects on time and on budget,” said Mr. Dann. “Successful execution of these projects will require careful, disciplined advance planning, a comprehensive analysis of the risks to the schedule, construction costs, and economic performance of these plants and a thorough risk mitigation strategy.”

Mr. Dann will speak before an audience of industry experts, utility company executives, reactor construction companies and contractors from leading companies in the nuclear industry including Areva, NRC, Shaw, Standard & Poors and many more. He will address how now, more than ever, utilities and their constructors need to have a far deeper understanding of the critical drivers of value and risk in a given project, allowing them to anticipate and respond to key developments and create risk mitigation strategies. Mr. Dann will discuss lessons learned and best practices not only from nuclear construction but also from non-nuclear large capital projects.

The Nuclear Construction Summit 2009 takes place October 26-27 in Washington DC. For more information, please visit the conference website.
